About Us

Young Yogis is Hamilton’s first business dedicated to making yoga movements and principles accessible and fun for the young in their home.

As a former counsellor for families and youth, a mother, and a teacher of grades 1-8 with specific training in movement based physical education, I have a good sense of what is fun for various age groups.  I love working with young people.

In Burlington, I currently teach young people in grades 4 - 8 with specific Learning Disabilities and some also have a diagnosis of ASD or ADD.  Movement, breathing, meditation and balance poses along with cooperative games have made their educational day much more focused, relaxed and fun. The students ask if we will be “having yoga” or “doing meditation” on a daily basis if they don’t see it on the posted schedule.  Making Mindfulness a part of our day, the students have discovered a new awareness and more empathy.  Even if it is only “a little”, it is a step in a positive direction. Using this type of planned activity has clearly demonstrated that trust can be built quickly and anxiety reduced over time.

Movement is natural for me, sitting still is not.  Over my several decades of physical activity, I have tried most of the sports and recreation activities available in the area.  I am an expert in nothing, but I enjoy trying new activities whenever I can.

Most recently kayaking and stand up paddle boarding have been added to my list of activities.  I am a lifetime downhill skier and hope to do it well into my twilight years (do people really say that?). I have enjoyed my yoga and meditation practise for many years but really focused on it over the past 4.

I have attended two 10 day silent meditation retreats with a view to developing a solid foundation for my own practise and applying it to daily living.  In the summer of 2015, I undertook training for teaching yoga to young people and putting research into action.  And here we are, with you and your Young Yogi.

Young Yogi parties, get-togethers, hangouts, celebrations, whatever you want to call it or for whatever reason you wish to host it, will be an engaging and inclusive way for friends to spend time together.
